This item is a callback to the 2000 game Experimental Penguins that would serve as part of the basis for what would eventually become Club Penguin.
The idea for the Experimental Penguin to be a wearable item in-game was first suggested by the user strangeman in the Club Penguin Journey Discord during October, 2023.
It used to be classified as a Body Item until the Transformation item type was added on May 17, 2024.
The item was made available as part of Captain Crimson's Voyager Offerings as a rare item. However, due to the loss of some game progression following the Club Penguin Journey shutdown in September 2024, all items obtained by players from the Voyager Offerings were lost.
